Trainings
1) Introduction to Using Human Rights Mechanisms
This training will introduce participants to the use of human rights mechanisms and other UN processes, and will provide information on how to engage productively in these processes.
2) CERD Shadow Reporting and Implementation (National Consultation on Racial Justice and Human Rights)
This training is part of a national dialogue on using a human rights framework to advance racial justice. In an effort to connect racial justice groups with human rights activists, HRP is spearheading a national conversation looking at the impacts of the World Conference Against Racism (WCAR), and sharing information on how to document and feed human rights violations into a national and New York City Shadow Report on the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) in 2007. If your organization works on racial justice issues and you have something to say about how discrimination impacts your community, we want you to participate. 3) Human Rights Advocacy
The Human Rights Advocacy training is designed to introduce participants to human rights concepts, methods and strategies that have proven successful in advancing local advocacy work, and to share innovative advocacy strategies that use the human rights framework.
4) Local Implementation of Human Rights Treaties
This training provides participants with nuts and bolts examples of what to expect, as well as what works, in implementing human rights treaties locally. It is designed to serve as a template for developing a human rights agenda in the home communities of participants. This training is offered at our annual 3-day Human Rights Institute in January for groups around the country. A condensed version of the training is also offered upon request.
5) Human Rights Documentation
The Human Rights Documentation training familiarizes participants with the concept of human rights documentation, and builds skill sets necessary for a successful human rights documentation project.
